Adhesive refers to a material that has good bonding properties and can form a film between the surfaces of two objects and firmly bond them together. It is generally formulated with components such as binding substances, curing agents, toughening agents, fillers, diluents and modifiers.

1. Adhesive substances, also known as adhesives. It is the basic component of the adhesive, which plays a bonding role, and its properties determine the performance, purpose and use conditions of the adhesive. Generally, various resins, rubbers and natural polymer compounds are used as binding substances.

2. Curing agent. The curing agent is a component that accelerates the curing of the bonding substance through a chemical reaction, and it can increase the cohesive strength of the adhesive layer. The resin in some adhesives, such as epoxy resin, cannot become a hard solid without a curing agent. The curing agent is also the main component of the adhesive, and its nature and amount play an important role in the performance of the adhesive.

3. Toughening agent. Toughening agent is used to improve the toughness of the adhesive layer after the adhesive is hardened and improve its impact strength. Commonly used are dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate.

4. Thinner. Also known as solvent, it mainly plays the role of reducing the viscosity of the adhesive, facilitating the operation, and improving the wettability and fluidity of the adhesive. Commonly used organic solvents are acetone, benzene, toluene and so on.

5. Packing. Fillers generally do not have a chemical reaction in the adhesive. It can increase the consistency of the adhesive, reduce the thermal expansion coefficient, reduce the shrinkage, and improve the impact toughness and mechanical strength of the adhesive. Commonly used varieties are talc powder, asbestos powder, aluminum powder and so on.

6. Modifier. Modifier is to improve a certain aspect of the performance of the adhesive to meet special requirements and add some components. In order to increase the bonding strength, a coupling agent can be added, or an anti-aging agent, preservative, anti-fungal agent, flame retardant, stabilizer, etc. can be added separately.

There are many types of adhesives, and there are many classification methods. The commonly used ones are:

1. Classified by chemical composition: It can be divided into organic adhesives and inorganic adhesives. Organic adhesives are divided into synthetic adhesives and natural adhesives. Synthetic adhesives include resin type, rubber type, composite type, etc.; natural adhesives include animal, plant, mineral, natural rubber and other adhesives. Inorganic adhesives include phosphate, silicate, sulfate, borate, etc. according to their chemical composition.
